Rocky Mountain National Park was formed in 1915 to preserve and highlight the grandeur of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Elevations in the park range from 8,000 feet to over 14,000 feet atop of Long's Peak.

Trail Ridge Road traverses the park and the Continental Divide. It is America's highest continuous paved road, offering breathtaking views. It will take you from Estes Park on the east side of the park, to Grand Lake on the west.

Plan a little time to adjust to the high altitude before doing anything too strenuous during your stay. 60 Rocky Mountain peaks in the park are over 12,000 feet in elevation!

Wildlife and Nature:

A huge variety of wildlife exists within Rocky Mountain National Park, including bear, coyotes, mule deer, elk, moose, bighorn sheep, and many smaller creatures. Birdwatchers can view bald eagles, hawks, and numerous other feathered friends. Wildflowers peak in June and July, with Autumn colors taking place in September and October.

Things to do:

There are over 350 miles of trails in the park for hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding. Fly fishing for trout is popular in the summer months. During winter, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing can be enjoyed, with plenty of Rocky Mountain snow. Ranger-led activities provide both education and entertainment.
